Steve Smith will demonstrate some of the local edible wild fungi as well as a variety of fungi that grows well in the garden at the October 22nd Sooke Garden Club meeting, at 7:00pm.

This month’s speaker is Todd Major, former Director of Park and Tilford Gardens in North Vancouver, who will be sharing a presentation on unusual plants for the garden.

Starting with a well thought out garden design can put you ahead of the game. Knowing which areas of your yard/property takes in more sunlight, shady spots, good, drained soil to clay, sandy soil. It will make for planting, maintaining and longevity easier.

As the Executive Director, Patricia Fleming has over 25 years’ experience designing demonstration gardens. She specializes in the creation of ecological gardens that work with natural systems, to incorporate indigenous plants and enhance biodiversity.

Mary-Alice Johnson from ALM Organic Farm will take us through how she grows good carrots, beets, turnips, potatoes, radishes, celeriac and many other root veggies.

Join speaker Paula McCormick as she discusses her project to create a mini/tiny forest on site at HCP.

Join speaker Barrie Agar as she will demonstrate the different methods to grow fruit that will fit in a compact garden and still be ornamental.
